Bluets - Houstonia purpurea " (Bedstraw family - Rubiaceae) " Pale bluish to white with a yellow eye. Stem leaves are paired, short and narrow. Often form large colonies. 2 - 8 in. Turfy slopes and grassy fields. Early settlers called then Quaker Ladies, Quaker Bonnets and Innocence.
Their generic name honors Dr. William Houston, an English botanist. There are various species of bluets, but the minor differences are of concern only to specialists.
